Software Houses Struggle for Recognition in Pakistan

Software Houses Struggle for Recognition in Pakistan

**Size and Scope**

Pakistan has around 800 registered software companies, but only a few are export-oriented. Most cater to local clients, offering accounting software, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and web development solutions. NetSol and Systems Limited remain exceptions with offshore offices and certified global partnerships.

**Barriers to Growth**

- Lack of access to venture capital

- No support for R&D or IP creation

- Talent drain to multinationals and foreign jobs

- Poor marketing and international branding

**Government Role**

The Pakistan Software Export Board offers training grants and subsidized office space in IT parks. However, red tape, tax complexity, and infrastructure issues make it difficult for smaller players to scale.

**Conclusion**

Unless the ecosystem matures with better funding, training, and global partnerships, Pakistani software houses risk being left behind in the global tech race.
